Flying into the Bahamas - Nassau International Airport
There are a number of airports located on the islands of the Bahamas, but only two handle longer flights coming from outside of the Caribbean - Nassau International Airport on New Providence Island and Freeport Airport on Grand Bahama. Of these, the Nassau airport, located just 10 miles from the capital city, receives the bulk of North American traffic from major carriers, including daily flights originating in Florida and flights coming in from New York and Philadelphia several times weekly. Air Canada offers direct service to the Nassau International Airport once a week from both Toronto and Montreal. European airlines do not fly into the Nassau airport directly, with most European travelers making a quick change through Miami. Direct flights from several cities in the southern US land at Freeport, but the airport receives much of its incoming traffic from Nassau airport connections.
A short island-hopper flight on Bahamasair is all that's necessary to reach other Bahamian islands from the Nassau airport. From Nassau International Airport there should be no problem reaching the outer islands, which are all well equipped with landing strips to accommodate small planes.
